Bird in Hand Half Marathon Weekend

The episode’s highlight was a comprehensive recap of the Bird in Hand Half Marathon weekend in Pennsylvania’s Amish country. Several guests joined to share their experiences, including Ellie, Carrie, Tracy, and Kim. Many described the course as “running through a postcard.” They noted the stunning pastoral landscapes and cornfields. Amish families were cheering along the route. The race features several unique elements that distinguish it from typical half marathons, including camel sightings (and occasional headbutts!), horse-drawn buggies as pacers, and challenging hills with approximately 581 feet of elevation gain throughout the course.
A particularly special aspect of the Bird in Hand experience is the food. Participants raved about the pre-race pasta dinner, but the post-race chicken dinner earned unanimous praise. One host remarked, “I’m going to be thinking about that chicken for the next year.” The weekend ended with a group dinner at Shady Maple buffet restaurant. There, 65 members of the Rise and Run community gathered to celebrate their accomplishments.
