Ep 229 Adaptive Strength: Heather’s Record‑Setting Donna 110 Story

The heartbeat of this conversation is momentum. We explore how to keep it when the weather bites and how to regain it after a big goal. We also discuss how one athlete used it to cross 110 miles in historic cold.

Heather’s Historic Donna Weekend

Heather, a push-rim athlete, provides details about the Donna 110. The event includes eight beachside laps on Saturday and a marathon on Sunday. This totals 110 miles in roughly 31 hours. She trained with stacked repeats (triple eights and nines), back-to-back-to-back 20s, and used Dopey as a catered long run. The cold was punishing. There were frozen CamelBak hoses, ice on course, and flurries. Still, she became the first wheelchair racer to finish the event. She was the only woman finisher this year. Uniquely, she was the ultra and marathon winner in the same weekend. Her mindset was deeply connected to community support. This included bike guides and a coach pacing a lap. It also featured a new custom-fitted chair delivered during Dopey. A tribute to Erin carried her through fatigue, laughter, tears, and dog-petting checkpoints. Her message is universal: anyone can chase big goals with purpose, support, and deliberate training.
