Alan and Grace Young

Alan has the incredible distinction of having run every single Walt Disney World Marathon since it began in 1994. Only 41 runners still maintain this legacy status. The couple shares fascinating insights into the evolution of runDisney events. They talk about the days before digital cameras and technical fabrics. They also explore the modern era of character stops and elaborate costumes. Their journey spans the transformation from race registration via snail mail to the current digital frenzy of registration day. It provides listeners with a living history of these beloved events.

What stands out most from Alan and Grace’s story is their resilience. Alan has overcome numerous health challenges. These include a stroke, carotid artery blockage, and multiple eye surgeries. Despite these challenges, he maintains his perfect attendance record. Their dedication serves as a powerful reminder. Consistency often requires working through difficult circumstances. It is about moving forward rather than waiting for perfect conditions. As Alan notes, “I never consider not finishing as an option.” This mindset has carried him through 32 marathons and counting.

The community aspect of running shines brightly throughout the episode. Alan and Grace have earned fame within the runDisney community. They are known for their handmade paracord friendship bracelets. They have created over 4,000 of them to share with fellow runners. What started as physical therapy after Alan’s stroke has changed. It has become a symbol of connection that has reached all seven continents. This beautiful gesture exemplifies how running communities foster relationships that extend far beyond race day.
