Sydney Marathon recap with Carrie

The Sydney Marathon made history as the newest World Major Marathon. Our guest Carrie shared her experience tackling this challenging course. It has now joined the prestigious circuit alongside marathons like Boston, New York, and London. She described the surprisingly hilly terrain. It was quite a shock coming from her training grounds in Florida. She also mentioned the breathtaking views of the Sydney Opera House. The Opera House was cleverly incorporated into the design of the finisher medal with a cutout silhouette.

2025 Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend

The return of Disneyland racing marked a significant milestone for the Run Disney community. After much anticipation, the Halloween-themed race weekend kicked off the 2025-2026 runDisney season in spectacular fashion. Runners described the experience as magical. There were character stops featuring Cruella de Vil. Her Dalmatian-themed setpieces created perfect photo opportunities. The course took participants through both parks. It offered unique views of attractions like Cars Land illuminated in the early morning hours. Runners also enjoyed views of the iconic castle. What makes Disneyland races particularly special is their accessibility. Many runners shared how they could literally walk from their hotels to the starting corrals. This is a stark contrast to the transportation logistics of Walt Disney World races.
One interesting development was the introduction of new Brooks running shoes. They featured glow-in-the-dark soles and were specifically designed for the Halloween theme. These collector’s items proved enormously popular, with many sizes selling out quickly at the expo. The excitement surrounding these limited-edition shoes highlights how closely the running and Disney communities are connected. They create a unique subculture of enthusiasts. These individuals collect not just medals but the entire experience.

The Great North Run in Newcastle, England may not be well-known to American runners. It stands as the largest half marathon in the world. The event attracts an astounding 60,000 participants and 200,000 spectators. Andy shared insights about this massive event. It has become so culturally significant in Northern England that it’s broadcast live on national television. The event even includes helicopter coverage. The race has such deep roots. Andy’s father ran it decades ago. He set a time that Andy still strives to beat.

As the episode wrapped up, focus shifted to upcoming events. The Wine and Dine weekend is in just six weeks. The highly anticipated Dopey Challenge is in January. These future goals keep the community connected, providing shared training experiences and anticipation that transcends geographical boundaries. The world can often feel divided. The running community showcased in this episode demonstrates how a shared passion can create meaningful connections. These connections span continents, cultures, and finish lines.
