Ep 248 Ready, Set… Train! Chris Twiggs Kicks Off runDisney Training.
Summer training has a way of turning simple runs into big questions: Why is my pace suddenly slower, how do I stay safe in the heat, and what actually matters in the first weeks of a runDisney training? We sit down with our friend Coach Chris Twiggs to get real answers you can use right away, whether you’re gearing up for Wine & Dine, Marathon Weekend, or dreaming about Dopey.

The episode begins with an introduction from Amy from Nashville crossing the Boston Marathon finish line . If you’d like to introduce an upcoming episode, please reach out to us on our social media. You can also email us, or leave us a message on our hot-line (727-266-2344).
Coach Chris Twiggs

Coach Chris Twiggs joins us and starts with a Hard Rock 100 update a graduate-level 100-mile ultramarathon in the San Juan Mountains with 33,000 feet of climb and 33,000 feet of descent that he will be running on July 10th .He explains altitude strategy in practical terms, including why arriving early matters and why the “benefit curve” levels off around three weeks at elevation. For runners coming from flat places, he shares realistic substitutes like stair climbers and structured hiking, plus the mental approach of doing the work without romanticizing it. Even if you are not an ultrarunner, the lesson transfers directly to marathon prep: specificity helps, but smart planning helps more, especially when life, work, and family do not pause for your training cycle.
We also get specific about heat acclimation, because summer running performance drops for everyone, no matter where you live. Heat slows pace because your body spends energy cooling itself through sweat and blood flow shifts, leaving less available for speed. Chris shares actionable heat training tactics: get outside for short lunchtime walks to teach your body to sweat earlier and more efficiently, prioritize hydration plus electrolytes, and use cooling tools like water on your head or an ice bandana. He names clear warning signs to end a workout, especially when you stop sweating, and flags electrolyte imbalance symptoms like tingling lips or swollen hands and tight rings. If you train in the heat, this is your reminder that water alone is often not enough.
Miles To Go Charity

Danielle and Tracy join the podcast to talk about the Miles to Go Charity and the upcoming Charity Run in Orlando on Sept 19th 2026. Miles to Go was founded in 2018 by a local 9 year old boy. It all began when he wanted his Mom to give him cash to someone at a red light. After an open and honest talk, Miles came up with special “to-go” bags full of essentials, for such occasions. Those bags have evolved and are currently being distributed all over Orlando & beyond!
