Ep 216 Miles of Magic: Luciana’s Hong Kong Disney Race Journey
The miles are getting long. The holidays are closing in. Motivation is wobbling. Therefore, we get honest about what actually works. We discuss the head game of marathon training. This includes patience over pace on long runs. We explain how to break the distance into chunks that calm your mind. We also discuss why comparing speeds on social media can derail your best week. You’ll leave with simple mental cues. You’ll have smarter pacing targets. There’s also a healthier way to handle missed miles without nuking your confidence.

The episode begins with an introduction from Jason who is finishing his virtual NYC marathon. If you’d like to introduce an upcoming episode, please reach out to us on our social media. You can also email us, or leave us a message on our hot-line (727-266-2344).
Luciania’s Castle Miles

Luciana joins the podcast to tell us about the Hong Kong Disneyland’s race weekend. It’s not runDisney, so expectations need a reset. She tells us registration is straightforward once you find the info. Pricing is refreshingly lower. Logistics are simple. The event starts in the bus lot, a short walk from the hotels, with paid shuttles from the city. Corrals are minimal, no proof of time, and the start gate opens just minutes before go-time. On course, expect fewer characters, more selfies, and no PhotoPass. The routes loop outside the park and along the waterfront before threading Main Street and the reimagined multi-princess castle. Checkpoints manage time limits, and some finishers who miss them still receive medals but don’t make official results. The shirts are standouts—bold art with full-back designs—and the medal set is cohesive around the 20th anniversary theme.
If you go, plan your fueling and food. Hotel quick service is limited, room delivery skews to local breakfast, and third-party delivery won’t drop at the resorts. Grab bananas, bread, and drinks in the city and stash them in your room. For back-to-back races—like 5K then 3K—wear both bibs, hydrate fast, and expect a quick reset. Water stops are cup-based, and the finish offers sports drink, water, and bananas. Save park time for Monday because that’s when wait times drop. Mystic Manor is a must-visit. Castle photos on Main Street capture the feel, even if the scale is smaller than Florida or Anaheim. The novelty, pricing, and shirts alone make a strong case for the Hong Kong trip. This is especially true if you crave a different run culture and city immersion.

Greg tells us about the Rocky Run in Philly. The heat, crowds, and Mount Drago—a hill—humbled big goals. It reminded him how to pivot mid‑race and still finish strong.
